Children's Dentistry

As a father himself, Dr. Chandler loves building relationships with children! He and his team understand that kids have unique needs when it comes to dentistry, and they strive to create a fun and upbeat experience for every child who visits our Edmond dental office.

As our lives continue to get busier, choosing a dentist like Dr. Chandler who can meet all of your family’s needs under one roof makes it more convenient and less stressful for your family to get the dentistry they need.

The First Visit

A healthy and beautiful smile is one of the most priceless gifts you can give your son or daughter. The journey toward excellent oral health starts early, and Dr. Chandler recommends that your little one has their first dental visit around the age of 18 months to two years old. At this age, your child can begin to sit in the dental chair, have their teeth counted and examined, and begin to feel comfortable coming to routine dental appointments.

After their first visit, your son or daughter should begin by visiting Dr. Chandler every six months for exams so that we can monitor their dental development. This allows him to make you aware of any concerns as early as possible. We will incorporate cleanings into their dental visits as they feel comfortable and ready for it.

Helping Your Child Feel Comfortable at the Dentist

There are many steps you can take as a parent to help your little one feel comfortable about their first visits to the dentist. Letting them watch you brush and floss your own teeth will help them begin to learn the skills they’ll need when it’s time for them to start brushing on their own.

Preventive Dentistry for Children

As your child gets older, your Edmond children’s dentist may recommend additional treatments, such as:

  • Dental sealants – A thin plastic coating that fills in the biting surface to guard against cavities
  • Fluoride treatment – A mineral that strengthens and builds developing teeth
  • Mouth guards – To protect your son or daughter from mouth or teeth injuries during sports

Dr. Chandler may also suggest orthodontic treatment for your child if he feels it might benefit their dental health.
