Edmond Dental Center

At what age should a child start going to the dentist?

The American Dental Association (ADA) states children should start visiting the dentist within six months of their first tooth emerging or by their first birthday. Our team at Edmond Dental Center agrees with the ADA, and we welcome children of all ages to our dental office. Dr. Chandler is a parent, so he understands firsthand the importance of ensuring each child’s comfort and safety during dental appointments.

Your Child’s First Dental Exam

During a first appointment, we will check your child’s teeth, gums, tongue, cheeks, jaws, and all other oral structures and tissues for proper growth and development. We also look for tooth decay, gum disease, and other concerns.

Dr. Chandler will even count their teeth and show parents how to best care for their child’s smile at home. Depending on the child’s age, we may take dental x-rays and perform a gentle tooth cleaning to remove plaque and refresh their smile.
